The weather did not look too promising as we drove over to Reddish Vale Golf Club (which has been voted 155th top golf course In England), but on arrival, we were able to get organised in bright sunshine.
Four groups started on the first tee, while two were sent to the third. This worked well, allowing the rounds to finish at the same time (more or less).
The course was in excellent condition, providing a challenge for members and visitors alike. The walk up the 18th does not get any easier. What was particularly remarkable was how the course had recovered from the flooding earlier in the year. Several areas were under water for some weeks but there is little permanent damage to see. We were shown where the banks of the river had collapsed and told how RV Club members are working to stabilise this section.
The meal following the round was just right, with sandwiches and chips. Alex told his joke, which was appreciated by all. The conversation over lunch was very enjoyable and we were all made very welcome throughout. While High Peak Seniors were ahead in the final tally of matches, the overall feeling we took away was that this was an excellent day out, with great camaraderie and we had played a top rated course which is very well run by a friendly and successful golf club.
